Xythos/PSReports project updates

  • Committed the updates to the Xythos project bugzillas today and committed.
  • Completed the PSReports.ReportDelivery class w/ method: deliveryToXythosUpload() with the Xythos getters such that the reponse object is filled in and becomes an argument to the RK info object.
  • Committed the ReportDelivery class to the repo so RK can test.

Xythos project updates for RK and PSReports projects

  • A little before lunch RK hit me w/ updating the Xythos project: 4 bugzillas mostly clean-up and addition of getter/setters to XythosProxyResponse such that he can use it in his PSReports project.
  • Completed 3 of the bugzillas today for: XythosProxyResponse, XythosProxyServlet and the XythosProxy (bean).

Portfolio Report Card updateCRC project

  • Report Card updateCRC trace debug
  • A lot of progress was made in understanding the updateCRC macro.
  • I was able to successfully remove the add (Aug.) month line item from the YTD worksheet and remove the Month worksheet (Aug.) and successfully run the macro.
  • The formatting and formula injection changes depending upon the type of processing selected for the target (dot).xls file.
  • WAMU fails today. Bought by JPM.

Portfolio Report Card updateCRC

  • Fed-up with the updateCRC macro I turned my attention to the FAFDS jetspeed portal assignment.
  • Attempts to find out why some (dot).xls files fail and others do-not became exasperating.
  • RK: wanted and received a break-down my progress w/ the updateCRC macro.

Hurricane Ike

Chainsaw clean-up weekend

  • Bought a new 18 in. saw today from Al's.
  • Sawed on the 65 Red Oak most of the day.
  • Finished the Red Oak on Sun. and Karl hauled all the debris away w/ the lawn tractor and trailer.
  • Collected some of the Shewbert wood on Sun.

Report Card updateCRC macro project

  • A anomaly was found in the use of the YTD format and the Date format variables as assigned to: typicalUpdate().
  • A meeting with MC in the Portfolio dept. help clear up some issues they have been having with the processing of the Excel report cards based on info discovered in the previous bullet.
  • More trace debug work in the afternoon in an attempt to understand updateCRC.

Report Card updateCRC macro

  • updateCRC Report Card project
  • Initially found some issues with the program.
  • This VB basic/Access program is very much piece together between: Access, VB, the filesystem, Excel, and (dot).bat files.

FIC VM Image project

  • I did not have pebble for 2 weeks starting today.
  • Started work on the FIC VM image on Mon. and by Wed. I was working on the doco for the project.
  • Thur. RK brought me into his cubicle to to have a little introduction to Portfolio updateCRC (Report Card) macro. Kathleen Ellison was there to work the detail. Also, the FAFDS Jetspeed portal was introduced.
  • I began work on the Report Card project immediately and by Thurs.25 Sep I am still working on this issue.

Hurricane Ike

1 week: no power, no gas, no ice

  • Hurricane Ike hits and we lose power sometime in 2:00-3:00 AM hour. The power loss may be attributed to the 15 feet of Elm treetop we lose over the power lines along the side of our backyard next to the street (Wintergreen). The large tree top comes crashing down in 2 pieces: one piece in our yard and the other on the street side taking the power line down with it.
  • Lots of wind and rain. The 65 Red Oak in the western edge of the lawn came down with the root ball sticking up. Lots of chainsaw work to get this monster cut-up. I was not able to get all the rounds picked-up since I had to collect wood from Shewberts.
  • At least I have some firewood for this winter and next winter.
  • Hopefully, (ha ha), FEMA will pick-up the tab for the saw. I applied to FEMA online 5 days after Ike come ashore and we lost power (Wed.). FEMA will also pay for the leak from the roof damage.

FIC dev. env. image project

  • Worked all day on: sysdevinv.docx to document and inventory the files and executables as deployed on the VM 10.3.66.102.
  • I did not get the 10.3.66.102 machine until about 3:00 PM (1500) but it was helpful in completing the document named in the first bullet.
  • Oddly enough the setx command was not available on the VM and so my attempt to make a much more simplified and automated imaging ready VM may not happen. Still the next step is to refine as much as possible the steps needed to create an easier process of creating a developers VM.

FIC systems dev. env. image project

  • Today I logged into the vmtemp machine as a regular user and I successfully ran: startfcservicingdomain92.cmd (WL).
  • I also checked-out the XythosProxy project and I was able to successfully build deploy the .war.
  • RK was very pleased with the result and I congratulated D. Rhea for the imaging job that went unusually well.
  • RK wants me to document what exactly was deployed to the vmtemp image. I got started on this task today.

Systems development environment vmtemp imageable install

  • At the end of day I decided to create manually the empty domain/<wl instance> directories and left them empty. The python scripts to create the WL instances worked perfectly.
  • Also at the end of the day RK gave me the details of how to create the imageable dev environment on  the vmtemp: he mailed me a couple of scripts and said the projects files should go under: c:\projects.
  • I also got a new real machine that I will not need now but I will try to keep the machine for future projects and if I have time I will create a dev environment on the new machine.

FAFDS Work Journal

FIC dev. clone project

  • Spent all day trying to get the vmtemp (2008 VM) machine to run the WL python scripts for: SWAN and servicing but nogo (directory exists!).
  • I was able to get both SWAN and servicing to run on my Windows box.
  • Sometime toward the afternoon I began talking to D. Rhea about what exactly was our  target and it seems the only thing DR can do is image what I install on the VM machine.
  • I put in a helpdesk ticket to acquire another real machine with a bare-bones installation: no JDK/JRE or any other software installed. The plan is to side-by-side intall the WL instances on both machines in an attempt to find out what is wrong w/ the VM.
  • PD is becoming more and more of a shit-ass and now VC is also cool and aloof.

Xythos Project and FIC dev. environment build

  • Worked on XythosProxyServlet project until around noon. I am having some issues with the download part of the project.
  • About the noon hour I got an email from RK to build the dev environment on a remote Windows box (vmtemp 10.3.66.102).
  • The instructions included a dev env. in-a-box type install such that new users do not have to put in so much work. As a result I copied all of my original downloads from my Windows box to a shared folder on vmtemp.
  • By COB I had the POM-PARENT checked-out and mvn built along with WL and the other goodies.

Xythos xythosadmin issue resolved

  • After spending most of the day trying to get a solution to either: XEDM Eval or projectfiles.flooddata.com RK informed me to just bounce the WL instance (fc_servicing) to restore the xythosadmin access to: projectfiles.flooddata.com.
  • As a consequence of the actions of the previous bullet. I was successfully able to run xythosproxy branch b1 on two sets of input files uploaded to the Xythos virtual file system into two different TLD/sub directories.
  • Afterwards I began reviewing the downloadfile side of: XythosProxyServlet. It is unclear if I will be able to make this work but I should have a better idea by Sunday or Monday night.

Xythos Hell

  • The current project has now been termed: Xythos Hell and this is why:
  • Successfully got xythosadmin on the windows box working along with upload-war-1.0 deployed but not working with the WFS API as expected.
  • The VS does not get verified properly when the getXythosVirtualServer() is called at: uploadFileToXythos().
  • I created a new thread on developers.xythos.com/wiki and input the logged Exception I have been getting while trying to use the XEDM Eval version of Xythos.
  • I sent an email to GS and have replied back to his request for the snippet: XythosProxyServlet.getXythosVirtualServer().
  • On a more enlightening note: PD threatened me with: be careful what you poke around in... This was in response to my statement about how I was connected to oradev0.flooddata.com and now I am in a position to understand the file system as it relates to the WFS API so-called <blackbox>. This will be looked upon very unfavorably if i am successful. If I am able to write a file to the WFS API demo version I will more thoroughly understand how uploaded files map to the DB.

FAFDS Work Journal

Xythos XEDM and XythosProxyServlet

  • Successfully installed the Xythos XEDM today.
  • I was not able to get the WFS API sample servlet to work correctly.
  • I used the rest of the day in various combinations of XythoProxyServlet installed under JBoss along with the xythosadmin.war which now no longer runs under JBoss.
  • I posted new threads to the developer.xythos.com wiki with question about the issues I have been facing with xythos and VirtualServer and directory permissions.
  • It is painfully obvious that I no longer have permissions to write files to anywhere on the oradev0.flooddata.com xythos.

FAFDS Work Journal

XythosProxyServlet methods and XythosAdmin

  • Most of the day was spent shoring up the Exception handling for the XythosProxyServlet.createDirectoryStructure() in an attempt to discover what is wrong with the Xythos VS running on oradev0.
  • AF and PD confronted me with what had I done to screw up the projectfile.flooddata.com VS.
  • AF said I was <defensive> but I calmly answered that I don't have an answer to her question other than searching my logs or printing my Work Journal.
  • I replied to Xythos Support with the requested attachment: XythosProxyServlet.java.

Labor Day weekend (Mom and Karl)

  • Karl was mad at me most of the weekend but finally we did some driving on Sunday and again today. Karl is more-and-more driving to stores and such for errands. He has driven me to Brookshire Brothers and HEB in TomasBall.
  • The weekend was pretty much the same-ol' except I got a lot of rest: out-of-character for me but I cultivated a cold from Deep-Eddy.
  • Helen cooked a very nice steak dinner for Labor Day with very good baked potatoes and a very nice salad. It was like manna-from-heaven after eating casseroles the entire summer.
